Glimpses of the Divine
A body of work intended to promote inward reflection and upward contemplation of the divine
My goal as an artist is to create work that is honest, biblical, and beautiful. I do this by placing the figure, realistically or metaphorically, in relationship to God through a lens of contemplation. My work is influenced by biblical imagery such as trees, light, and vessels, as well as my own experience of familial loss and care. I create pieces that invite inward reflection while also directing the viewer outward and upward to God’s holiness, sovereignty, and our sanctification.
Across paintings, drawings, and prints, I create a majority of figurative and narrative work, using both human figures and natural forms. I am particularly interested in light as both a physical phenomenon and a symbol of illumination and transformation, often employing strong, otherworldly light sources with a muted color palette. My sculptural work further explores the figurative and narrative by experimenting with abstract forms that become symbols for spiritual truth connecting back to the unity we have with the divine. The driving force of my practice is to lead the viewer to behold God through the visual expression of age-old truths.
